National Tiles x Polytec

National Tiles x Polytec

A Partnership Built on Craftsmanship, Innovation & Sustainability

At National Tiles, we believe the materials we work with are more than just finishes - they’re the foundation of spaces that inspire, comfort, and endure. That’s why our partnership with polytec, one of Australia’s most trusted decorative surface brands, is so important. With a shared commitment to design excellence, craftsmanship, and sustainability, polytec has become synonymous with innovation in interiors.

We spoke with Chrissie Elvin, Head of polytec, to understand the story behind the brand and what continues to set it apart after more than 30 years. Chrissie joined polytec in 2012 with nearly 30 years’ experience in architectural and construction products. She leads polytec’s sales and marketing team - a hardworking, seasoned, and knowledgeable group committed to delivering results and supporting customers. Together with Managing Director, Michael Borg, CEO, Jim Snelson, the product management team, and manufacturing colleagues, they drive product development and innovation that balances design excellence with sustainability.

“I’m passionate about supporting and guiding our people,” says Chrissie, “creating an environment where everyone can contribute, learn, and succeed. Our achievements are a direct result of this collaboration, and it’s this shared dedication, expertise, and commitment to craftsmanship, sustainable practices, and creative solutions that continues to shape polytec’s reputation as a trusted, forward-thinking Australian brand.”

polytec’s journey is an inspiring Australian success story. Founded by brothers John and Michael Borg on the Central Coast of NSW, what began in their parents’ garage has grown into a leading national brand. Today, as part of the Borg group, polytec operates state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and a fully integrated supply chain - ensuring quality and consistency across every product.

“polytec was built on craftsmanship and a belief in Australian manufacturing,” Chrissie explains. “What drives us today is what drove us from the beginning: innovation, sustainability, and a deep respect for design.”

Known for its ever-evolving palette of colours and textures, polytec’s approach to product development is far from trend-chasing. “We want our palettes to be fresh yet familiar,” explains Chrissie. “Something that feels inspiring today but will still resonate ten years from now.”

The popular Mood Board of the Month series exemplifies this approach, showcasing polytec finishes alongside complementary products like tiles, benchtops, and tapware. By curating materials in context, the brand makes it easier for designers and homeowners to envision cohesive, liveable spaces.

At the heart of polytec’s success is its ability to continually innovate while staying grounded in environmental responsibility. All products are made to rigorous Australian standards, with antibacterial certifications across key finishes. Many carry Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), use recycled content, and are GreenTag certified.

“It’s not enough for products to look good,” Chrissie notes. “They must also endure - functionally, aesthetically, and sustainably. That’s what creates long-term value for our customers and the industry.”

polytec’s collaborations, with designers, cabinetmakers, and supply partners like National Tiles, are central to its philosophy. By bringing expertise together, the end result is not just a beautiful product, but a complete design solution. “Partnerships allow us to tell a stronger story,” Chrissie says. “It’s about aligning creativity with practicality, and showing how surfaces interact with other materials to create something greater than the sum of its parts.”

From residential kitchens to commercial projects in healthcare and hospitality, polytec products are designed to deliver durability without compromising on beauty. Their tactile finishes, from the softness of Woodmatt to the subtle grain of Ravine, add warmth, depth, and authenticity.

“Texture is fundamental,” Chrissie explains. “It invites touch and makes spaces feel more human. When you walk into a room and can’t tell whether a surface is natural or engineered - but it still delights you - that’s exceptional design.”

As the design landscape evolves, polytec continues to explore emerging technologies and materials. From slimline benchtops to colour and refined interpretations of classic profiles, the brand remains at the forefront of design solutions that feel distinctly Australian.

And while global design fairs provide inspiration, polytec stays true to its roots. “Australians have a unique design sensibility, grounded in our landscapes and focus on sustainability,” says Chrissie.

For National Tiles, partnering with polytec means more than just offering a trusted range of surfaces. It’s about aligning with a brand that shares our vision: empowering architects, designers, and homeowners to create extraordinary spaces with products that are beautiful, practical, and built to last.
