What's new? International tile trends for 2015

The National Tiles team recently returned from a buying trip to Europe and brought back a taste of some exciting tile trends about to hit Australia. Here’s our wrap-up of what’s hot in the tile market in 2015:

  • Go brick-style. Brick patterns are proving popular for both internal and external spaces. Imagine them gracing a dining/living room or laid around a covered BBQ area. A stylish alternative to real bricks, they can also work in commercial spaces such as food outlets as some ranges are compliant with food safety laws (be sure to check specific safety laws in your state or territory). Check out our Chicago Brick range for a taste of this on trend style, a warm and attractive rustic tile made in Europe.
  • Old is new again. The European-made Liberty range has strong echoes of classic Moroccan style tiles. This range features some stunningly beautiful designs with a mix of curves, diamond shapes and classic Arabic geometric patterns. The colour scheme is earthy brown, light tan and stone-like grey.
  • Encaustic tiles. These beautiful handmade-style tiles come in a spectacular array of patterns and can be found in our Europe Mix, Country Range and the Caprice Centro Hexag. These are set to continue on trend in 2015.
  • The Masia range. This range has been with National Tiles since 2013 and looks to be still trending big in 2015. These brick sized 100x300mm patterned wall tiles are wonderfully versatile, bringing colour and elegance to spaces from home bathrooms to commercial interiors such as cafés.
  • Colours galore. Colour is back, from bright pops of colour such as blues (as seen in our Masia range) to more subtle tones such as terracotta. And don’t forget that white goes with almost anything and is never out of fashion. For a modern twist or aa touch of interest we have whites in ripple, pin stripe and other unique patterns.
  • Shape up. Unique shapes are on trend. No longer are tiles just rectangular or square – ask a commercial representative for a look at some of our more unusually shaped tiles so you can make a one-of-a-kind statement. On trend currently is hexatile, a hexagon shape in various sizes that’s particularly striking in combos or two or three different colours.
  • Feature walls. Feature walls are set to remain big for 2015: tiling one wall with a unique pattern and then choosing a white or neutral tone for the other tiles in the room to create contrast. The possibilities are endless and feature walls are a great way to give a room a stylish splash of colour. A simple bathroom can be transformed into a statement piece with a wow-factor feature wall.
